2008 Nationals action

03/05/10 - The 8th Auckland International Open was completed over the weekend, with over 400 entries again. All 6 countries and 7 Areas had athletes winning titles at the event. A feature was the RAF vs ANZAC Combined Services Teams event, won 6-2 by the RAF. 04/07/09 - Auckland University Judo Club hosted a highly successful teams competition at their dojo today.  In the first round the Judokwai North Harbour team beat the Western Judo Academy team, while on the other side of the draw a combined Waikato & Howick team beat a combined Wellington and University team.  Judokwai went on to beat the Howick/ Waikato team in the next round earning the right to challenge the host team.  Judokwai successfully beat University in the final despite being two men down through injury.  Congratulations to the winning Judokwai team and to all other competitors who took part.  It was a great event enjoyed by all who took part. 

04/05/09 - Congratulations to Natasha Downing on being graded to her shodan black belt at the Auckland International open.

12/02/2009 - Over the weekend a small group of Aucklanders put in strong performances at the ACT Open in Canberra, one of Australia's top events.  Read the full report on the event here 

24/01/2009 - Entry infomation is now available for the 2009 Auckland International Open.  This is shaping up as our biggest International Open yet with strong international interest.  For more information visit our events page 

07/01/2009 - Two international teams have already confirmed their attendance at the Auckland Interational Open on May 2 & 3. There are several others who have also shown strong interest. For more information on the international teams click here 

22/12/2008 - Congratulations the finalists and winners of the annual Auckland Judoka of the Year Awards.  Winners were: Ryan Dill-Russell - Senior Judoka of the Year, Moira De Villiers - Youth Judoka of the Year, Ullrich Boshoff - Junior Judoka of the Year, Dave Browne - Referee of the Year, Johan Boshoff - Coach of the Year, Craig Bartlett - Official of the Year, Nippon Judo Club Open Championships - Event of the Year. 

30/11/2008 - Congratulations to our Olympic referee David Browne who at the recent North Harbour Sports Awards won the Referee/ Umpire of the Year.  Dave has had a busy year of refereeing this year with several trips to Europe, the OJU Championships in Christchurch, and of course the Olympics where he refereed the final of the Men's -90kg division. He will also referee at the Kano Cup in Tokyo in December.  Other Judo Auckland success in sports awards recently include Lawrie Crooke and Craig Bartlett who were both finalists in the Counties Manukau Sports Awards in the Referee/ Umpire and Coach categories respectively.

17/11/2008 - The Judo Auckland Annual General Meeting was on the 16 November 2008.  Our executive was elected for the 2009 year.  To see details of the new executive click here

25/09/2008 - Auckland judoka had some great results in Australia this month at the New South Wales and Queensland International Opens.  For some more detail of how our judoka's success click here 

08/09/2008 - Congratulations to Dave Browne on his election to the position of Judo New Zealand President. Dave has been a mianstay of Judo Auckland for a number of years serving as both Area Director and more recently Vice President of Judo Auckland.  Dave has also recently returned from refereeing at the Beijing Olympics.  Dave replaces another Aucklander Harry O'Rourke as Judo New Zealand President, with Harry having occupied the role for the past 26 years.  Harry in recognition of his services was appointed Honourary Past President of Judo New Zealand.

12/09/2008 - Aucklanders dominated at the North Island Championships held in Wanganui last weekend with 5 of the 9 gold medals on offer in Senior Mens picked up by Aucklanders. Altogether 25 gold medals went to members of various Auckland clubs, with many more silver and bronze.  Congratulations to all the medallists and thos who took part.  For the full results click here
